Every number keeps its identity.
Commodity, form, unit, currency, geography, period, basis, source, retrieval time, freshness, rights, and limitation stay attached from ingestion to display.
Source rule
Public facts come only from an allowlisted authority or a dataset whose commercial display rights have been reviewed. Search results, social posts, marketplaces, private quotes, email, WhatsApp, WeChat, SPAs, COAs, and seller documents cannot publish into the intelligence product.
Current sulphur release
The trade series uses Statistics Canada's Canadian International Merchandise Trade total-export files. It filters HS6 code 250300, requires the metric-tonne unit, aggregates all destination and U.S. state rows by month, and calculates statistical unit value as customs value in Canadian dollars divided by reported quantity in metric tonnes.
calculated statistical unit value = customs value (CAD) ÷ reported quantity (MT)The production context uses the U.S. Geological Survey Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. It is a separate annual estimate and is not merged with the customs series.
Why unit value is not a spot price
A customs unit value averages recorded transactions inside a customs code. It can mix forms, grades, destinations, counterparties, contract dates, packing, and trade terms. Read the dedicated customs unit value versus spot price explainer for the full interpretation.
Freshness states
- Current
- The source release date is within 45 days. If no release date is reported, period end is used.
- Delayed
- 46–75 days from the freshness anchor. A newer reviewed observation is not yet available.
- Stale
- 76–120 days from the freshness anchor. Use the number only as historical context.
- Unavailable
- More than 120 days from the freshness anchor. The current numeric headline is suppressed.
Refresh and release
A weekly job checks the official source, validates the exact host, content type, response size, archive members, schema, units, values, and source hashes. A changed dataset creates a review branch and pull request. It does not auto-merge or deploy. Narrative, rights, sources, and methods never change automatically.
Corrections
Source revisions and GMC corrections are recorded in the release and changelog. A correction changes the visible date only when visible content changes. A routine source check does not pretend that the data itself changed.

Statistics Canada data in this release are adapted and attributed under the Statistics Canada Open Licence. USGS-authored data are credited to the U.S. Geological Survey and are public domain. Source names do not imply endorsement, approval, certification, or partnership.
